Joy Holmes is a rising junior at the University of Washington, majoring in psychology. Born and raised in Washington she grew up with several close friends whose families had immigrated to the United States. Inspired by their stories Joy joined the student organization, International Unity Initiative (IUI) in 2020. Over zoom, she got the opportunity to collaborate with students from across the world to talk about global issues.
In 2021, Joy connected with many international students through Bridges International and was a youth student leader at her local church. Being able to talk with these students was so life-giving, and created a desire in her to continue to serve students from diverse backgrounds. After Joy graduates, she hopes to work as a school counselor or in a related counseling position for students. She also hopes to continue in advocacy work.
