  • The college-prep program at Leelanau School results in a 100% college acceptance rate. Alumni from Leelanau have successfully been accepted in more than 150 universities and colleges in the nation.
  • A combination of small average class size (4:1) and a highly individualized academic system allows every student to realize their individual strengths, receive individual support and gain personal growth in and outside the classroom.
  • Project-based and experiential learning: ensure that academic learning is not just theories, Leelanau sought to provide students with hands-on, practical experience whether it’s science or arts.
  • Learning commons and specialists: during commons hours, learning specialists will work with students to practice the skills and materials they learn from classes and try to advance them. Learning skills classes are also available for students to pick up tips and tricks like note-taking, time management, making planners, etc.
  • Exploratory trips: are an integral part of experiential learning at Leelanau, every year, students participate in such trips will learn to be resilient, adaptable, and creative in unfamiliar and uncomfortable situations. By traveling and working together on these experiences, students make friends, learn about each other, and interact with one another.
  • Winter Term: is an opportunity for students to further explore and learn about what they are interested in by engaging in a five-week immersion. The courses ranging from literature to ecology, sports, and art workshops.
Student Life
  • Being an intentionally small school, Leelanau makes sure every student receives individual services, support and advice during their time in class and in dormitories.
  • Family Advisory Unites (FAU): every student is assigned to an FAU that is overseen by two teaching faculty parents and a residential faculty advisor. FAUs are an important way for students and faculty to get to know and support each other deeply.
  • During the week, students can try many different activities after school hours from 32 different sports and clubs such as field sports, horseback riding, theater, hiking, yoga, tennis, golf, and potentially rowing, fencing in the near future.
  • Weekend programs are always available and organized by the Student Activities Board (SAB). The program helps to encourage students to take some healthy risks in trying new and different activities.
Intensive English Program
  • Leelanau School does offer some ESL courses for Secondary/High School international students.
